Chocolate puddings are a class of desserts with chocolate flavours.Yummy in taste,it completes your meal.Here is a simple recipe to make eggless chocolate pudding.You might thing it can be called a mousse.But,there’s a slight difference between the pudding and the mousse.Mousse is the cousin of Pudding.
Sweet pudding is a semi-solid, creamy, sometimes dense dessert that can be served warm, chilled, or at room temperature.It is traditionally made with a mixture of milk and sugar, that’s cooked and thickened with cornstarch. Less traditionally, rice, tapioca, chia seeds, and even gelatin are used as thickeners in some recipes.The pudding is cooked.
Mousse is the lighter, fluffier cousin of pudding. Its lighter texture comes from whipping air into the mixture. It gets its airy consistency by folding whipped egg whites or whipped cream into the base mixture. The traditional mousse starts with a base similar to pudding, minus the cornstarch, to which beaten cream or beaten egg whites are folded in.Unlike pudding,the mousse is not cooked.
This recipe will have 4 servings.
Dark Chocolate (chopped) 150 gms
Milk 3 cups
Cornstarch 2 tablespoons
Cocoa powder 1/2 cup
Sugar 2/3 cup
Salt 1/4 teaspoon
Butter 2 tablespoons
Vanilla extract 1 teaspoon
In a saucepan, stir together sugar, cocoa and cornstarch in a medium heat.Gradually stir in milk and add salt.Stirring constantly,cook over medium heat until the mixture boils.
When the mixture has thicken,remove from heat.Stir in dark chocolate,butter and vanilla. The heat of the mixture will melt the chocolate and butter.Keep stirring till the mixture is smooth.
Pour the mixture in your serving dishes.To avoid a skin forming on top, apply a plastic wrap directly onto the pudding surface.Serve warm or refrigerate at least an hour.
Garnish it with your favourite ice-cream,fruits and nuts.
