Eggless Choco lava cake


A lot of people have been requesting to share the lava cake recipe. So finally the wait is over and here I share my easy and eggless recipe of Chocolate lava cake. Earlier, while going through recipes by many foodies, I found many of them using All purpose flour and cocoa’s ratio to be 2:1. This was something that couldn’t satisfy me. Every time, I would be in a quandary that if the all purpose ratio is more and they are baking the cake only for 8-10 minutes, will the all-purpose flour be cooked properly?  Also, I found many of them sharing a long process of preparing the chocolate stuffing and then freezing them overnight. This wouldn’t work if you have surprise guests with choco lava requests. Finally, I found an easy and a very simple recipe of making these eggless choco lava cake that gets ready in 15 minutes and are super moist and full of hot molten chocolate lava.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Baking Time: 10-12 minutes

Serving: 6 lava cakes


½ cup All purpose flour

1 cup cocoa powder

1 tsp baking powder

¼ tsp baking soda

¾ cup sugar

½ cup refine oil

½ cup milk

1 tsp vanilla essence

½ cup large chopped dark chocolate pieces

1 tbsp icing sugar (for garnishing)



Pre-heat the oven at 150 °C for 10 minutes. Grease the cake moulds/ ramekins from all sides and keep aside.

In a small bowl, sift the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda.

In a large bowl, add sugar and oil and whisk on a low till they become soft and fluffy or change their colour. Once they have become soft, add vanilla essence and milk and whisk again. Don’t add the entire milk at a time. Add in small batches as per need.

Add in batches the dry ingredients and whisk again. Finally, using a spatula, scrap off the sides and edges and fold the mixture properly.

Pour the batter into the cake moulds/ ramekins till half. Place a large chocolate piece in the middle of the batter and cover the top with a spoon of batter again. Place these moulds in the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes (depending on oven types and voltage) at 170°C.

Take the moulds / ramekins out of the oven and shift some icing sugar over the top for a nice texture.

Serve hot with a scoop of ice-cream, dollop of cream or simply enjoy the molten lava cake.
