Cilantro Prawn masala


You can never say NO to prawn as they are so delicious and healthy. They are a rich source of Omega 3 fatty acids and also reduce the risk of cancer, arthritis and heart diseases. When you get to know so many benefits, you won’t miss a single chance to grab them. Here is one simple prawn recipe that needs no extra endeavour; a recipe made with your kitchen’s simple ingredients.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Cooking Time: 15 – 20 minutes

Serving: 4 


200 gms prawns ( de-veined and washed)
1 big sized Onion (chopped)
2 green cardamom
1 bay leaf
1 black cardamom
1 tbsp fennel seeds
1 tbsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp red chilly powder
2 tbsp coriander powder
1 tomato (chopped)
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
Chopped coriander leaves
Salt to taste
1/2 lemon
2 tbsp Mustard oil



De-vein and wash the prawns. In a bowl, add turmeric powder, red chilly powder, ginger garlic paste and salt to the prawns and marinate them.
In a large pan, add mustard oil and heat it. Add bay leaf, black and green cardamoms and fennel seeds. Once they crackle, add the chopped onions and fry them. Once they become translucent, add ginger garlic paste and chopped tomatoes. Fry them for about 5 minutes and let them cool. Once they get cool, grind them in a mixer. This grinded mixture will leave you drooling.
In the same pan, add little oil and toss the prawns for a couple of minutes. Once cooked from all sides, remove them from the pan.
Add the grinded mixture to the large pan again and fry them. Now, add turmeric powder, red chilly powder and coriander powder and fry again. Add salt to taste. Once the oil starts to separate and you get a nice aroma, add the marinated prawns to the pan. Add desired water and cook them for a couple of minutes again. Once done, turn off the heat, add chopped coriander leaves and squeeze a lemon juice.
Serve hot along with rice or roti.
